What's the difference between architectural and 3-tab shingles?+
Architectural shingles like GAF Timberline HDZ are thicker, multi-layered, and have a dimensional, shadow-line look, with a stronger wind rating and a longer lifespan. 3-tab shingles are a single flat layer, lighter, and more budget-friendly, but they carry a lower wind rating and shorter lifespan. Most Wilmington homes we work on choose architectural for the coastal wind exposure.
What is the Timberline HDZ shingle line?+
Timberline HDZ is GAF's flagship architectural shingle and the most-installed shingle line in North America. It combines a dimensional, shadow-line look with strong wind performance, which is why it is our default recommendation for Wilmington homes.
