Low-maintenance composite deck with clean railings, built around the backyard.
Composite Deck Build, Castle Hayne, NC
A Castle Hayne backyard got a new composite deck built for low maintenance and years of use, with clean railings and a layout designed around how the family actually uses the space.
Composite decking means no annual staining and no splinters, just a wipe-down now and then. We build decks alongside our roofing and construction work, so it is the same crew and the same standard.

River Bluffs
This gated community sits right on the Northeast Cape Fear River, so its roofs take wind straight off open water. Re-roofs go through the community's architectural review, and we prepare those submittals.
Sunset Reach
A newer riverfront neighborhood off Rockhill Road where most homes are still on their first roof and first flashing. We inspect for install defects and early storm lift, before anything reaches a ceiling.
Wrightsboro
One of the older established areas along Castle Hayne Road, running from mid-century ranch homes to recent infill builds. Soft decking and worn out three-tab shingles are what we find most here.
Blue Clay Road Area
Large rural lots, older farmhouses, and long ranch rooflines with plenty of exposed run and little tree cover. Metal roofing gets chosen often out here, with nothing to slow the wind or sun.
Roofers in Castle Hayne, NC Who Know What the River Does to a Roof
Castle Hayne sits north of Wilmington in New Hanover County, strung along the Northeast Cape Fear River on ground farmed since the Dutch settled here. It is far enough inland that salt spray is lighter than at the beach, but still in the path of every hurricane and tropical system tracking up the Cape Fear corridor. For a roof that means constant humidity, damp under river fog, and wind-driven rain pushing up under shingle courses and around chimney flashing. Algae streaking on north-facing slopes is normal here, and so is a roof that looks fine from the driveway with soft decking underneath.
Every Castle Hayne job starts the same way: a roof inspection with photographs of the flashing, valleys, penetrations, and the attic side. If the roof is coming off, it is a full tear-off, never a layover. Rotten sheathing is replaced, synthetic underlayment goes down across the whole deck, and new flashing is fitted rather than reused. We are a CertainTeed SELECT ShingleMaster and GAF-certified installer and a FORTIFIED-credentialed contractor, so materials go on to manufacturer specification and the warranty holds. Most residential roofs are completed in one to two days, and the site is magnet swept before we leave.
What makes Castle Hayne different from a single subdivision is the spread of housing stock. A 1950s farmhouse off Blue Clay Road and a new riverfront home in a gated community both need a roof, and not the same one. That is why metal roofing comes up so often here, and why we quote standing seam alongside architectural shingle rather than one answer for everybody. We also handle siding, deck building, garage building, and kitchen remodeling here, working from our base a short run up US-117 in Rocky Point. Howard Roofing & Construction is insured, veteran-led, and family-owned since 2016.
